The Ortler mountains in the Sud Tyrol of Italy provide a stunning amphitheatre of high peaks with some fantastic touring possibilities. Our trip coincided with considerable fresh snowfall which gave us some great powder skiing on some days but also limited visibility on other days. We used the Branca and Pizzini huts, both of which provided comfortable accommodation, welcoming hospitality, excellent wine and cuisine as a good reward after our exertions on the mountain.
