Has anyone done a heli assisted ski climb of Mont Blanc? I see there are heli companies that will take you to within 800m of the top. I would love to do it the hard way but 1800m climb and 3800m descent in one day is a bit much at my age! Just looking for tips about companies operating and anything else in general. Thinking about late April.

No need to do it in a day. Get the train + walk up to the Tere Rousse hut. Stay there overnight. Up early in the morning and scramble up to the rock face. Get to the goutier hut and join the hoards walking up to the top.
Think we started very early morning on the way up. Get to the top for sunrise. The earlier you can do the downclimb back to the Tete Rousse the better as the ice melts and stuff falls off.
Stay at the hut for another evening (with beer)
Then trudge down to the train ((next day) and make sure you get priority tickets down so you annoy the tourists!!
Take some more beer to drink on the train on the way down :)

Imagine this would be significantly cheaper than a helicopter. Good achievement too :) shouldn’t need large rucksack as you can get most stuff from the hut or can leave bits there when you’re going up

Thanks but I am referring to a winter season climb up/ski down, not a summer boot climb. Sorry if I didnt make that clear.

My bad- I was bored at work and went off on one. Now skiing sounds much more exciting! Don’t know how I missed that!
